ATS (Applicant Tracking System)
In simple words: An ATS is software that helps a company manage hiring. It collects job applications, keeps all candidates in one place and shows who is at which stage, from applied to interviewed to offered.
Example: A company gets 200 applications for one job. With an ATS, the recruiter can filter them, move shortlisted people to the next stage and see who is waiting for feedback, without digging through emails.
Why it matters: It stops good candidates from getting lost in inboxes and gives hiring managers a clear picture. It also saves a lot of time when you’re hiring for several roles at once.
Definitions are general guidance. Your organisation's policies and applicable local requirements determine how a term is used in practice.
